WELCOME TO MY GARDEN BLOG. TODAY I JUST ADDED 4 RAISED BEDS TO MY BACK YARD GARDEN! EACH IS 6' X 3' AND 16" DEEP. I will line them with landscape cloth down the sides and unto the earth then add 4 layers of cardboard to the grass and a layer of wood mulch and then fill with compost that I buy direct for the wholesaler. I will use these boxes this year for my heirloom tomatoes and heirloom carrots, basil and possible shallots and garlic.. I started all my own seeds this year.. and am growing 13 varieties of heirloom tomatoes.
The view out my patio door... Love it!!
The first box of the new raised beds... I'm in love all over again.....
Now to level and dig them into the ground, and fill with cardboard, mulch and compost.
It all started with 3 little trays... once upon a time ago...
half way thru... they are sure doing good...
and they trays are multiplying.... can you spot the squash blossoms?
Nothing more spectacular than the morning suns rays peeking into my tomatoes...
I will also add more compost to my 10'x10' existing garden and plant (late) All Blue og, German Butterball og and Bintje og potato eyes!! So excited, I can hardly wait to watch them grow and to see the end result!!
These pictures are from this year 2012. They are the start of the starters planted. I don't have much room in my home so I use all the windows I have. East seemed to be fine. The pictures show a progression in growing.. Also I am a supporter of the Baker Creek seed company. They, Baker Creek, have a wonderful book T"he Heirloom Gardener" and it is a great read.. also posted some of my favorite magazines that I read from front to back.. and sometimes back to front...
